August 29 Five Signs You Are Ready for a Relationship=)Getting back to my Boot Camp duties, here are five signs you are ready for a relationship: ~You actually like the person you see in the mirror most of the time. ~You've made the decision that your cat is not enough and you sincerely want a love relationship. ~ You're negotiating with the boogy men inside that hold your heart captive in fear. At least you're talking to those inner boogie men about the scary things they say about keeping yourself safe and closed off to love. ~You've dated a variety of frogs, princes & court jesters and can be comfortable being real on a date. ~In a fight you can climb out of yourself to see things from the other person’s point of view. Dr. Diana August 27 Godzilla I’ve been ruminating of course. After hearing that Love in 90 Days Boot Camp was going to be shown at the Directors Guild Theater, all I can imagine are the Godzilla -sized parts of my anatomy up there on the big screen. Ah, when does the all-about-what’s-wrong-with-me ever end? I’m looking through my Boot Camp Manual right now. Ah, right here on page 135A in a footnote to a footnote, it says: “Work on feeling your sabotaging thought fully, really feeling how awful it is, and then letting it go, kind of like a barbed arrow in a bow that you pull all the way back toward you and then let loose. The all-about-what’s-wrong-with-me thought will fade away in the distance so that it does not ruin your happiness. But it never completely disappears.” Who made up these emotional rules? I want to know. August 25 The Directors Guild Theater???I just found out that the screening for Love in 90 Days Boot Camp during the Festival is going to be at the Directors Guild Theater!! Somehow I envisioned us all just sitting around in armchairs watching it on tv screens. But at this incredible Big Apple theater? No way. This is amazing and overwhelming and so mind-blowing! Also scary as heck. This show is my baby, my fantasy, my impossible dream come true. Damn those affirmations work. August 23 Nothing but the Best = )Once I decided to become a big Hollywood producer and make Love in 90 Days Boot Camp myself, I had to come up with fancy dressing room trailers for my cast. Since we had an extensive budget we could provide ultra pimped-out trailers. Yes, I hate to brag, but we actually had 600 thread count sheets to wrap around each cast member so they could change. 600 thread-count! Really.
My Partner in SublimeJeremiah is not only my partner in sublime, but he also has a great cheese-o-meter. I waded through about 50 DP/filmmakers to find Jeremiah Alexis. As you can see from his photo he was so sour and serious-minded I had to choose him.
August 17 Diana Kirschner on Love in 90 Days Boot Camp being selected for the NYTVFI sank to the floor laughing, crying and soaking it all in after Brent called to tell me that Love in 90 Days Boot Camp was chosen as an Official Selection of the 2006 NYTVF! Then I blew my boot camp whistle and called my mother. (Actually I really did sink to the floor and call my mother.) After many attempts to break through the impenetrable walls of TV land I had become quite the expert in being rejected. Just minutes before The Call I was giving myself a boot camp drill talk: Now don’t be upset when your pilot doesn’t make it into the Festival. I know you poured your whole self into it, but you made it on a shoestring and you’re up against bigger bucks
and talent. Take this failure as a lesson that moves you on your way, blah, blah, blah. Being a dutiful good camper, I said back to myself, Screw you! Don’t give me that crap! I’m gonna be miserable and depressed and you can’t stop me. That’s when the whistle blowing did come in! And right then the phone rang with the stunning news. At first I didn’t even understand what Brent was saying. Then I got it. As I sank down in shock, I felt mega blessed and realized that the long string of dead-ends, criticisms and rejections really were the homework drills I needed all along. You just have to keep on believing in yourself, keep on creating, and keep on using each “no” to take you to a higher level. Many thanks to NYTVF for selecting our pilot and most of all, for having the vision and taking the risk to open the doors of television for all of us. Together we are realizing their dream of making “our greatest shared medium…our greatest shared canvas.” |
